Licence/Membership Extension
23rd October 2020
Welcome to the weekend, there is no doubt COVID-19 pandemic has well and truly shut down 2020, and has certainly had a catastrophic impact on our beloved sport. To help boost morale and support for our members, IHRA Australia is pleased to provide a 4 month extension to all current licence holders.
Please note: If your licence has expired your have 21 days (13th November 2020) to renew and receive your complimentary extension. There is currently a 4 to 5 day turnaround for processing licences through head office, please be patient and understanding during this busy period.

This to back up yesterday's announcement, to put this into perspective IHRA Australia has been working on this project behind the scenes with Drive It for two years and there was always a belief in the Drive It Team and their passion and commitment to see this through.

As the Head of the Sanctioning Body I was really impressed with the Professional approach that Pat Driscoll, Greg Fitzgerald and Graham Pope displayed along with commitment, integrity and a can do attitude that screamed we will get this done.

I can't express my gratitude enough for what this announcement means to Drag Racing in Australia.

Townsville Set to Burn Rubber with New Drag Racing Facility
23th September 2020 
We have some incredible News out of Townsville today from Pat Driscoll and Greg Fitzgerald - Drive It Board Members that they are on their way to the Facility for an Announcement about receiving $10 Million to fund the build of the Drag strip in Townsville, Maurice Allen was given the news over the phone just a short while ago regarding the Announcement and the News is just what every Drag Racer needs to hear right about Now... This is a great step forward for Drag racing in delivering a state of the art Full Concrete Quarter Mile Facility with all of the latest IHRA Australia upgrades to cater for all aspects of the sport.
This news bring added excitement with the opportunity to bring the 400 Thunder Championship Drag Racing Series to Townsville showcasing Australia's best Teams in both the Professional and Sportsman Ranks under IHRA Australia Sanctioning and the new Drive It Facility located just about of Townsville.
We will continue to provide updates on this exciting project as details come to hand.

Racing Onn & IHRA Australia team for Supercar Double Header Event in Adelaide
13th September 2020 

In an exciting announcement Racing Onn Promotions has teamed up with IHRA Australia and The Bend Motorsport Park to bring back drag racing in SA at the up and coming V8 Supercar Event on September 19-20th and again on September 26-27th.

Whilst this is set to be on off-track display, this will be an exciting way to give all Motorsport fans the opportunity to come out and be around a fantastic selection of drag racing vehicles.

There will be a great assortment of cars and bikes from different classes and categories of drag racing. There will be engine start-ups and give aways.

This must be seen as an excellent opportunity to motivate and enthusiasm lf all of our loyal race fans in SA at the recently completed motorsport venue (Drag Strip yet to be yet to be constructed. This event will be a great introduction to all of those who are not familiar with drag to get a feel, taste and smell of our dynamic sport.

Rino and Kirsty D'Alfonso from Racing Onn Promotions commented that drag racing is in our blood and what a wonderful opportunity to get back to supporting all our loyal supporters including the fans of drag racing in Adelaide. The support already shown has been overwhelming. Let's all get behind this and all that is asked that if you are a drag racing fan, do not miss this opportunity to show your support for drag racing in Adelaide.

IHRA Australia Welcomes Copper Coast Motorsports Raceway 
11th September 2020 

IHRA Australia is pleased to announce a Multi-Year sanctioning agreement with the Copper Coast Drag Racing Club located on the beautiful Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. The Copper Coast Raceway is situated approximately 1hour and 20 minutes from the centre of Adelaide and the Club is pleased to announce that the land has already been acquired in Kadina and a large area has already been cleared to make way for the next stage of building a Full quarter mile drag strip with all of the latest IHRA Australia Safety features incorporated into the design. The club has been working behind the scene in forging a relationship with the Copper Coast Council and are to be commended on forging a strong and healthy relationship with them.

IHRA Australia CEO Maurice Allen presented a formal proposal to the Copper Coast Mayor as well as the CEO outlining the benefits and opportunities that the sport of drag racing can bring to the popular sea side town.

The initial meeting generated excitement, and a second meeting was called for, to include all the representatives of the Copper Coast council. The excitement and buzz around a facility of this nature was seen as an excellent opportunity and a must build approach was the outcome by the whole council. CEO Russell Peate commented that the Copper Coast Council have agreed to actively support the club and IHRA Australia in securing the finances to help construct the drag strip. Mr Peate also went on to say that the Copper Coast Council appreciated the economic, community, social benefits and value of such a new complex.

Maurice Allen commented that this is a terrific opportunity for us as an organisation to move into the state of South Australia and see this as a terrific opportunity to all IHRA Australia competitors in the Southern States to have another brand new drag racing facility to compete at. This growth an expansion will see us recruiting more Stewards, Technical Inspectors and Track Staff to accommodate and support Drag Racing in South Australia.

Steve Bettes General Manager of 400 Thunder Professional and Sportsman Drag racing series also commented that this announcement is a further exciting development for the sport of Drag Racing in Australia and we look forward to the facility receiving the required funding and the delivery of another IHRA Australia ¼ Mile Drag racing complex that will provide immense tourism opportunities and dollars spent in the beautiful Yorke Peninsula.

IHRA Australia Welcomes Heathcote Park Raceway to Member Family

IHRA Australia today announced the latest member track to join Australia’s largest Drag Racing Sanctioning Body, Heathcote Park Raceway in Victoria, as part of a multi-year sanctioning agreement between the two parties.

Located around 130km North-West of Melbourne and only 32km from the Regional City of Bendigo, the historic venue that has been a part of the Victorian Drag Racing landscape for over 40 years.

VALE JOHN "Stomper" WINTERBURN
IHRA 9th September 2020 
Today, We received the very sad news that Willowbank Raceway's John "Stomper" Winterburn has passed away unexpectedly, and he will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends.
Only a few days ago he was honoured for his lengthy and meritorious service to the sport with news that he will be inducted into the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame for 2021.
 We are all so glad he knew about this induction before he passed today, as it is a fitting tribute to his work in the sport for over 50 years.

IHRA Australia is conducting two Sign on Days for Junior Drag Bike.
The following two dates are proposed for the following facilities.
 
WILLOWBANK RACEWAY - Saturday 22nd August 2020, from 11am - 1pm
In attendance will be the following IHRA Australia Staff and officials:

SYDNEY DRAGWAY - Saturday 29th August 2020, from 10am - 12pm
In attendance will be the following IHRA Australia Staff and officials:
  • Tim Nielsen
  • Mick Withers
  • Will Davey
This will be the start of various sign on days that will be conducted by IHRA Australia. The objective of these events is to provide the following:
  • Application and processing of Drag Racing Licences.
  • Technical Inspection of Motorcycles.
  • Basic Skills Tests
  • Introduction and explanation of Drag Racing, Junior Drag Bike Class and participation in the sport.
These events will require you to bring the following:
  • Legal Guardian/Parent.
  • All required Licencing Forms, i.e.: Licence Application, Completed Medical/Physical form, Proof of Age (Birth Certificate) and Under 18 Indemnity Form
  • Motorcycle compliant for one of the two categories - 150cc or 300cc
  • Full riding gear, including helmet, full leathers, boots and gloves.

SYDNEY DRAGWAY TRACK UPDATE

The Sydney Dragway board and Project Steering Committee are pleased to announce that Fulton Hogan have been awarded the tender to remove and replace the racing surface.
 
 
Ehab Saffaga from Fulton Hogan and Sydney Dragway Chairman Joseph Rodriquez took part in the handover ceremony at the track this afternoon, with demolition slated to begin tomorrow.

During this 12 month period you do not have to worry about losing your race number.

 New Multi Day Reciprocal Event Licence

Attention Racers
IHRA Australia has introduced a new Multi Day Reciprocal Event Licence (MDREL), which is available for all Sportsman racers, with current alternative sanctioning body credentials, who wish to compete in a IHRA Australia Sanctioned Event. 
 
MAXIMUM 3 DAY EVENT  
 
   
  1. Download MDREL form
  2. Send to IHRA Australia Head Office with $75.00 fee
  3. Present Vehicle/Bike at Track for Full IHRA Audit
  4. SEND IT

  • Request and Payment for a MDREL form, must be completed prior to the event.
  • A current Licence and Logbook in date from an Alternative Sanctioning Body must be provided.
  • Teams responsibility to ensure that vehicle meets all IHRA Australia Class regulations and Class designations.
  • Technical Inspect (100% Scrutineering) to be completed at Track by an IHRA Technical Officer (Valid for Event Only).
  • IHRA Australia reserves the right to disallow any vehicle not compliant with regulations and class designation. 
     
   
 400 THUNDER / IHRA Joint Statement

In response to an article published in yesterdays paper regarding Top Fuel Racer Wayne Newby, IHRA Australia & 400 Thunder have issued the following statement:
“in light of the article published on the Daily Telegraph on the 5th February 2020, we acknowledge the seriousness of the charges and subsequent conviction of Wayne Newby.
IHRA Australia and 400 Thunder are undertaking a joint investigation into the case given the seriousness of the issue. The results of this will be shared with his team, Rapisarda Autosport International and Wayne himself.
It is important to note that Wayne has taken full responsibility in his actions surrounding the case in question. He has pleaded guilty before the courts and accepts his sentence in full.  PALMYRA DRAGWAY SIGN 3 YEAR SANCTIONING AGREEMENT

Chirnside Park Vic, IHRA Australia announces a 3 Year Sanctioning Agreement with Palmyra Dragway.
Palmyra Dragway is situated in Mackay Qld, and is one of the longest and oldest facilities in Australia steeped in history. Palmyra Dragway is a Full Quarter Mile facility in beautiful Far North Queensland.
IHRA Australia CEO Maurice Allen stated that this announcement is exciting for all Qld Drag Racers and Fans alike, as this now gives everyone in the region three great facilities to race at, including Springmount Raceway and Willowbank Raceway.
